Spent the last 5 hours on this and I have nothing. I come from an open source background so this is all new to me. Setup:

Clean install Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server Express 2008 R2 (Mgmt Tools installed)

I run the web install from microsoft's site -it all goes through - then I try to run the install wizard and it can't find the database. I can open the instance 'SQLExpress' in management studio, but there is only the default DB's listed. No Database.mdf like in the App-Data directory.

I have reinstalled everything 3 times - what else needs to be done to make this web install work? I am missing something and it is eating me up. Please help.

I figured it out for nayone having this problem. DefaultAppPool runs under ApplicationPoolIdentity. If you change the DefaultAppPool to run under NETWORK SERVICE andgive it full permissions to your DNN directory, you shoul dbe good to go.
