Hello there,

I have been looking on those forums, as well as many other places but I cannot find the answer to my problem.

I'll explain, I have installed a dnn5 website on my personal website at the following address:

http://www.mypersonalwebsite.com/mydnn5website

The site is there, up to date and running.

Now I would like to access this same site from a different url, say http://www.mynewurl.com,

The folder where it's installed on www.mypersonalwebsite.com/mydnn5website is setup as an application in IIS, updated www.mynewurl.com dns records  to point to www.mypersonalwebsite.com/mydnn5website - that's through godaddy hosting.

I have also added the following aliases to the portal ( www.mynewurl.com / mynewurl.com / http://www.mynewurl.com, http://mynewurl.com).

Having done those changes, and restarted the application I access the page www.mynewurl.com - or any variation of it - but instead of the site loading up at the current url as the browser is doing a 302 redirect to www.mypersonalwebsite.com/mydnn5website.

I thought it might be something to do with godaddy or with the DNS settings, so pointed mynewurl.com to mypersonalwebsite.com/randomhtmlsite and that's working fine, no redirection happens. I also modified the default DNN alias to google.com and mynewurl.com 302 redirects to google.com, so it looks like the first entry in the aliases list take over anything else. I also tried to change this to mynewurl.com, but understandably got an infinite loop.

Did I miss something somewhere? I hope this posts makes sense, please let me know if more information is needed.

Many thanks, Thomas

somewhere seems to be still a wrong host header in IIS - please make sure, you removed aplication from mydnn5website folder and IIS web site points to it. Make sure, IIS host header is http://www.mypersonalwebsite.com. In DNN, portal alias should be just www.mypersonalwebsite.

Hi Sebastian, there's definitely something dodgy going on with the header and the portal aliases. I tried creating another portal for testing purpose, used a different domain name I have to point to it, set it as default in dnn settings. Managed to do it, and load the new site on the right url, redirecting not happening. I had to do a few updates and restarts to the applications but got there.

I then tried to move those settings to the first portal, managed to break it temporarily, had to login to the second portal, and after multiple restarts and updates to the host aliases have it now back on the wrong url - but available at least :)!

i'll give it a night of rest and try again tomorrow!  Thanks for your help
