Hello Everyone, I am hoping that someone can assist me with setting up my very first @Home DNN trial site.
We have DNN set up at work and it works very nice, the IT dept. could make it better by getting us off the reporting server but otherwise it runs very smooth.

I thought it would be nice to try to set up an basic DNN site at home to get better acquainted with it in case problems do arise at work, maybe I can better describe it or better yet, possible fix it myself.

I am running a Windows 7 Pro machine with MS SQL Server 2008 Standard installed and I believe I have everything in order but I cannot get the final step to happen.
I installed SQL Server, created the DB, activated IIS and set the DefaultAppPool, copied the files from the current version of DNN into the folder under inetpub/wwwroot/DotNetNuke, set my permissions and I think[?] I still need to configure my web.config file but I am not sure what exactly to change if anything.
I am hoping that I am providing enough info for anyone to help, please let me know what else I need to provide if anything.
I looked at my DB using MS SQL Server Management Studio and the username and password look good, and I I made sure that the syntax for the DB name was correct, even trying others to be sure.

Basically what I am getting is when I type in my browser http://localhost/DotNetNuke, I get a "cannot display page" error.
I am sure, well pretty sure, that it is the web.config file that needs tweaking, but I want to be sure.
Here is what I have, omitting the username and password:
Under Connection Strings portion ---
<add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server(Deathstar);Database=DotNetNuke;uid=myuser;pwd=password;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

Before you laugh, I was in a bit of a Star Wars mood when naming my database.  Sue me. :-]

Any help is appreciated and respected.  This is new territory for me, I usually deal with web-design and graphic arts [in my spare time] so database driven websites  is all new.

Thank you,
Bill

Hi Bill, it sounds as if you forgot to configure your dnn folder as a database, but besides, I suggest to create a dedicated IIS web site for it instead of using a subfolder of default web site, where web.config gets inherited and may interfere. to create a separate web site, you need to choose a name for it (e.g. "DNN") and enter it into the /windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts file as uncommented alias for localhost. Now move your DNN folder outside the wwwroot folder, grant full access to the asp.net user and create a new IIS website, bound to "DNN" name and pointing to that directory. Use a .net 2 integrated app pool (with proper windows account identity) and you should be ready to go.
