Hi everyone.  I dabbled with DNN quite some time ago.  I beleive it was the 3.x days.  During that time there was a real nice video for new people that stepped them step by step through downloading, setting up folder and IIS, and installing, and then launching the website for the first time and let DNN do it's thing.

Is there something like that out there.  I have been away from this for quite some time and would like beginner 1.01 instructions on how to setup my pc and installing.

I am running windonws 7 professional and SQL 2008 R2

Finally - my goal is to get the site up running locally, learn how to use the modules, but very soon afterwards moving the site to a hosting company.  Any preferred hosting companies - support is important..

There are a couple of tools that help greatly.

First would be Microsoft's Web Platform installer and it's included Web Applications which DNN is one of. Learn about it here.

Next would be a installation helper program that a community member (Mike Van Der Meulen) built. I've heard very good things about this one.  Learn about it here.

As far as hosting companies go there are three good ones in my opinion. If you want super fast servers and top notch support PowerDNN.com is the best and most expensive @ $20 per month. 3essentials.com and DNN4Less.com would be the next two choices.

Definitely have a look at Mike's installation helper - it does a good job of sorting out permissions which catch up a lot of people.

As for getting the site running on a LIVE server - you can go past powerdnn.com - when you purchase a hosting with them it comes preconfigured with dnn fully up and running and ready to go - note also - that they have a service to transport your development site to the live server if you wish to go down that path.

As for the microsoft web platform installer - if you are running windows 7 or windows server 2008 - then it does not work properly out of the box due to some issues with permissions and account management.  Also some odd issues with how it tries to set up ms sql 2008 express.
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/V... has a good video that talks thru using it.

Another option - which I have not yet had the chance to explore was blogged about the other day is using webmatrix -- here is the blog:

WebMatrix is microsoft's new web development tool - http://www.microsoft.com/web/webmatrix/ - and it natively supports installation and development using dotnetnuke.
