When setting up  DotNetNuke community 05.06.01 i navigate to my domain and get to see the DotNetNuke setup page(s) but when I get to the Database config page then DotNet reports the error below,  the issue i have is that all the connection details I have provided are correct and work in Microsoft SQL Management studio but not in the DotNetNuke DB config screen.  It gives an error code but the error message field is blank.  Has anyone got any ideas as to what this error is and why it is happening ?

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 20

Based on my past experience:
  • Triple check the connection string.
  • Triple check the db user has the correct permissions.
  • Make sure the sql server allows remote connections.

Hi Eric, Thanks for your reply.  I've checked everything about 15 times now and have tried various options but still it reports an error.  The same information works fine when I connect to the DB using Microsoft SQL Server Manager.  The external string that my host has provided me is : "mssql2005.barium.lon.periodicnetwork.com,59855" I have tried it with both a semi-colon and without at the end but still it fails.  Not sure what else to try..

Hi, I am not sure on the compatibility level of the DB, it's SQL Server 2005, I search for info on MSSQL 2005 compatiblity level but could not find anything useful.  I've looked at the DB with MS SQL Studio but cannot find anything that realtes to compatibility mode, how can I check ? Many Thanks,  Phil
