Earlier today I installed 5.6.0 to our production server which went fine. After completing the install I noticed the Critical Updates bar so thought I might as well run the upgrade to 5.6.1. After dropped connections to the server during the the upload of the upgrade package I finally got what I thought was all the files to the server. I ran the install wizard which failed to upgrade to 5.6.1 as when I went to the site it was still 5.6.0.

I deleted the files completely, deleted the database and started from scratch with the install zip of 5.6.1. Once all the files were uploaded I went to run the install wizard and now get this error:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Compilation Error

Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.

Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'FileSystemPermissionVerifier' is not defined.

Source File: D:\vhosts\domainnamehere.co.uk\httpdocs\Install\InstallWizard.aspx.vb    Line: 341

I've never seen this one before and searches turn up nothiong that helps so far. 10 hours into trying to get this to run and getting ready to give up.

Does anyone know what this could be? I have a few DNN sites running on the same servers without issue but this is the first install of 5.6.1

Thanks very much.

that looks like missing files - thought that type is part of dotnetnuke.dll. I'd recommend that you check that that file was deployed, and also that when you initially download the install package you right click on it, go to properties and click "unblock" to ensure that no internet zone information is saved and causes issues. Finally, it might be an idea to use the web platform installer to try installing - it will pick up any missing dependencies, apply the necessary permissions and also validate that the package downloads and unpacks correctly - see the last video on http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources/Wiki/tabid/1409/Page/Install_DotNetNuke/Default.aspx

Thanks Cathal. I finally got the install wizard to run. I couldn't see any missing dll files but re-uploaded them anyway and away it went. Sometimes things just fight you for no good reason, its bean a long time since I've had any issues install DNN.

Cheers!

glad it's fixed, looks like it was just one of the crazy things such as a locked file that are impossible to recreate.
