Hello!

So DNN pro installed pretty darn perfectly.  However, this being a development machine, I want to have my DB attached to the server directly instead of "user instanced", able to interact with it in the SQL manager.  I have found the file and attached it, and I do think I've created an account for it, and given it every permission I can find in the endless permission maze that SQL server seems to be.

This is possible to do with SQL Express, right?  I don't need the full version for this?  What am I missing?  I just can't get DNN to connect to the DB I've attached.

Thank you!

Hi Jodi,

Yes, you should be able to manage your DNN database through SQL Express without any issues. Are you getting any specific type of error when attempting to browse the site? You may want to check and make sure the connection strings in your web.config are properly pointing to the local SQL instance rather than a file path. If you are working with a brand new DNN install, another option would be to wipe everything out and start over by creating the database with proper user, password, and owner permissions before running through the install process again.

you need to adopt both connection strings in your web.config to use "Database=databasename;UID=username;PWD=yourpassword"
