DNN will not install because it ALWAYS generates an error for the DataProvider.Instance().GetProviderPath() regardless of what I do.

I find DNN to be COMPLETELY BROKEN as it doesn't even include a Web.config for you to modify to add application settings or connection strings.  Even when you add your own Web.config and apply the settings IT COMPLETELY IGNORES THEM!

The installation instructions in the PDF are so far out of date by several versions that they don't even come close to being useful (example: it instructs you to create a directory and unzip the source into that directory then edit the Web.config BUT - the root directory does NOT contain the web site and the zip file does NOT contain a Web.config file).

I used it many years ago when it was a simple matter of unzipping and running it and the first run it did everything it needed to install it.

DNN no longer provides a functional installation, accurate instructions, or runnable source code!

Why has DNN taken several steps BACKWARDS since 2006?

This used to be a great product!

Can someone please explain to me how I can get DNN to actually run?

PLEASE DON'T POINT ME TO THE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS AGAIN AS THEY ARE CONFIRMED TO BE OUT OF DATE AND UNUSABLE WITH THE CURRENT VERSION OF DNN.

Thanks,

Mark

Are you trying to install the SOURCE version? If so, don't. Use the INSTALL version.

If you really must use the SOURCE version then you need to copy either release.config or development.config as web.config.
