Hello Reader of this topic,

i am thinking about using this nice CMS on my German Developer Website. The Problem ist, that i cant use SQL really. I can use MS Access Databases, SQL NOT. I havent got other Databases (like MySQL or some) and thats the main problem that i cant use this CMS.

I tried the search for "xml database", if there is a complete edit on DNN which allows me/us to use a xml database instead of SQL. But i havent found any "really" results.

My question is now, if you know a modification (or another poral - if this isnt usable with xml) which allows save data into xml or MS Acess DB.

Well, the first answer will be "write your own", well i am on it, but that is a huge project (with forum etc.) and it will take some months i think.

When there is no fix or CMS that is compatible with Access/XML would it be possible to modificate DNN to use MS Access or XML Databases ?

Well, correct me if i am wrong, but you can Handle an Access Database with SQL-Commands. This means that you only have to create all Tables and Settings which are set up to the SQL-DB. Is this correct ?

Thanks for your answers

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

no, you can't. You will need a Sql Server out of the Microsoft Sql Server familiy. Please note that there exist free versions of that server (http://msdn.microsoft.com/sql/express/).

DotNetNuke has a  provider modell which would allow to write your own Data provider to store your data inside MSAccess/Xml or what evear you want. But it will make no sense because of missing features of that platform. Yes, Access accects SQL Commands, but it has no idea to handle stored procedures, DDL commands are limited. There are some projects writing providers for firebird and mysql, these platforms offer a lot of the needed features though this will last a couple of months before beeing usefull.

Nevertheless you might be able to write your own Access provider, but be aware that this is not done in hours or days, it will take months or years. If you finally finish, this will result in poor performance and stability.
