Hello

I am attempting to install DNN600 into a small farm environment:
1 x Domain Controller on W2K8R2 64bit (domain = ad2008r2)
1 x Database Server on W2K8R2 64bit running SQL Server 2008 R2 with SP1
1 x File Server on W2K8R2
1 x Web Head on W2K8R2

I have created a database on the SQLServer Database Server (DNN600) and create a user in AD (dnnadmin) and added that user to SQLServer  and made them db_owner on the DNN600 database. I tested connectivity from the WebHead to the SQLServer using SQL Server Management Studio and can connect with that user.

I then ran the User Install of DNN from the Web site and made sure to select remote database server rather than a local instance of SQLExpress during installation.

I modified the web,config as follows:

<connectionStrings>
  <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=db01.ad2008r2.loc\MSSQLSERVER;Database=DNN600;uid=dnnadmin;pwd=XXX;" providerName ="System/Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>

<appSettings>
  <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=db01.ad2008r2.loc\MSSQLSERVER;Database=DNN600;uid=dnnadmin;pwd=XXX;" />
</appSettings>

When I run the wizard at http://localhost/dotnetnuke I get a configure database page that displays the information from the connection strings along with the following

Connection Errors:
Index #: 0
Source: .Net Sql Client Data Provider
Class: 20
Number: 87
Message:

As you can see there is no message.

Please can you advise on what has gone amiss?

Thanks

Paul A Bedford

Hi Paul,

As I recall, error 87 / class 20 indicates an invalid connection string, so it is there that you should likely focus your efforts.  I see that you are specifying SQL Server instance "MSSQLSERVER", however, this is the name of a default instance and does not need to be included in your connection string.  If I were in your shoes, the first thing I would do is to utilize only the machine name "db01.ad2008r2.loc" and omit the instance.

Hope this gets you started!

Hi Brandon

Thanks for the response. I thought I read somewhere you needed the database instance in the connect string... However i removed it as you suggested and now I get a the following

Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 18456
Message: Sql login failed

I have also tried connecting with sqlcmd but get the same result.

Thanks

Paul
