Hello!

I've just done an install of DNN on a box within our network and I have a couple issues with the install that I can't resolve, any help/guidance would be great in resolving them.

SPECS

Server: 2008
SQL 2008 R2
IIS7

Issues

  1. Naviagtion - When navigating to the site at localhost/dotnetnuke the site won't display unless it is using a secure connection, such as httpS;//localhost/dotnetnuke. I've not experienced this before, it there a setting in IIS i've missed, or within DNN Host settings?
  2. Login - When I navigate to the site using the browser on the server I can login with no problem. However, when I navigate to the site from across the network (my desktop to the server ie; https://servername.domainname.local/d...) I cannot login to the site. I get a couple javascript errors, they are:

first of all I would run fiddler to see what is happening under the covers, in case there is an unexpected redirect on HTTP requests (this could come from a network device such as a load balancer/proxy server)

By default IIS serves content on port 80 (http) - it is possible to drop the binding for the website but you would have to explicitly do it - it is also possible to set IIS to require a certificate for auhentication (i.e. to disable anonmous and enable basic and require a certificate - see http://www.windowsecurity.com/article... for an example) but again this is not a default settings and takes some work to do (though the changes can be done at the server level and new websites will inherit)

As to the errors, I dont really know -the "sys" related error often can mean that MS ajax has not loaded (or that the site is not using .net 3.5sp1) but that would not explain why it works on one machine and not another.

Hi, Cathal!

I've found that the box that I have this installed on isn't configured properly, well, not proper for my DNN install. I've asked the network admin to build me a seperate virtual box.

Thanks for responding with your post,
Herb
