I am trying to set up DotNetNuke on a shared hosting provider. Everywhere I go and everyone I talk to says I have to put DotNetNuke in a sub folder and can not run it in the root of my site.

ie, I must install DotNetNuke at www.samuelmsr.com/<folder> or run it on a sub domain http://<folder>.samuelmsr.com

I have been informed that this is the only way to be able to give the web.config file write permissions in a windows hosting enviroment.

I need to know if this is true, if there is a way to circumvent this issue and make it work on the root of a site somewhere.

Thank you very much for your help and guidence.

Sam

Does anyone have any input at all?

This is what I was told by a tech at GoDaddy:

"If this was a Linux hosting plan, that would work. However, you previously mentioned using a web.config which is Windows specific. Unfortunately permissions within a Windows hosting environment are inherent to the settings of the folder where your file resides."

He then went on to say that within all windows hosting packages that noone gives the ability to change the permissions on the root of the site so I will have the same issue no matter what hosting provider I use.

This sounds fishy to me, like a salesperson for the company rather then tech support help.

Thanks!
