I ended up copying all the files from my original installation over to the new installation.  I guess that worked but not sure it is the right thing to do.  This does bring up an interesting question.  Someone mentioned running up to 100 sites off the same database.  When there is a DNN update do you install that once to the main site or do you have to update every site?

Steven, if you get notified of this I have a question. I am starting this whole thing over from scratch. I wiped out my database and just did a clean install of DNN 6.1.5 to my server and it is up and running at www.10yes-solutions.com. I then (probably stupidly) went into Host and Site management and added a new portal for cardonprintwithdg.com. At first I just FTP'd the update files to the new website (i did the update files because "Well I had already installed everything....." Anyway, I got an error. So I uploaded the full install files to the website. When I browsed to it I was walked through the installation program. While I did walk through the install and saw things I didn't see on the original installation like smtp setup, asked about modules to install etc I was a little concerned because it asked me to create another superuser account. I thought you had one of those per main installation???? Anyway, is this the correct way to add additional portals or have a completely screwed things up? Thanks

Hi John, when you create a new child or parent site, you do not apply DNN upgrades/install files to that site. You simply create the new site and you're ready to go. Upgrades are applied just the once to the wwwroot of the DNN installation. I suspect your site is not salvageable, someone else may know differently.
