You first have to update to version 3.1.1 (i haven't tried it with 3.2.x ), then the users will be ported to version 3 after that you can run 3.3.3. Good luck!

I think etinuz is right. The membership provider underwent a change in the latest version, which could be causing some hang-ups.

It was a long time coming, but I finally upgraded from 2.1.2 to 3.1.1 and then on to 4.4.1 no problems. Thanks for the info etinuz!
