Hi,

I'm trying to restore a live hosted website to my local machine. I exported the sql database and created a new db locally. I got the source code from the live site and copied locally to my machine. I created a virtual directory pointing to the code and changed the web.config file to point to the database. I have windows 7, sql server 2008 rc, iis 7.5, DNN version 5.6.2. My application pool for  the directory was setup asp.net V4.0 classic .

I'm getting the following error when I try to browse through the directory:

[NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.]
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.CacheMappedDirectory() +44
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.InitializeApp(HttpApplication app) +226
   DotNetNuke.Common.Initialize.Init(HttpApplication app) +148
   DotNetNuke.Common.Global.Global_BeginRequest(Object sender, EventArgs e) +458
   System.Web.SyncEventExecutionStep.System.Web.HttpApplication.IExecutionStep.Execute() +148
   System.Web.HttpApplication.ExecuteStep(IExecutionStep step, Boolean& completedSynchronously) +75

I was wondering if any one knows about this error.

Had you added the localhost or virtualfolder eg. localhost/dnn to your PortalAlias Table of the Database ?Have you added the correct DatabaseUser from your web.config file to the database and give them dbOwner permissions?

Thanks Matthias.

 I changed the HTTPAllias to point to the local site.  I also had some database issues. After all of them got fixed, it worked.

thanks again
