Hi,

I am installing DNN v 6.0.1 (latest version) on my computer at work which is running Win XP Pro and I get the following problem every time I try to install. I get past the first few checks and I can configure the database properly but it hangs on the "Building your database" step. It will stay there for hours if I let it. I have to use the task manager to kill the process and when I go back in to the installation, it automatically goes to the host login section but I wasn't able to complete that part previously because it hangs on the step before.

I've done some research and some people have said that they clicked on F5 while it was hanging and that took them to the next step but that doesn't work for me. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Thanks

Hi Rob,

about the database could be connected and installed on differnt ways, we need to know on what way you use the database. I basicly using the sql login and not the trusted mode or the file mode which used the windows login.

On a failed install you have to delete the database and recreate it, and re extract the dnn files of the install package, before you try a new install.

My way is I greate a new database on the SQL Server eg. 'Dotnetnuke' then I add a new SQL user to the SQL Server security. Then I open the users properties and assign the user to the new created database with the schema 'dbo'.

Then I could start the install wizard, and add there the SQL Server and SQL user name with his password.

You must also be sure that the IIS user have read permissions and the application pool user have change, access, write and read permissions on all physical files and subfolders of your DotNetNuke root folder.

That used to be a major issue prior to version 6.0 but I haven't seen it since.

Check your database and make sure you have the correct credentials. Don't use the sa account. Create a new database and use a new ID and password and try again.

You also have the option to use sql express.

Hi,

Ya, I am using the sql login that I have created and mapped it to the user that I have created also. I tried the manual install this time and I'm getting issues this way as well. I went through the instructional video and the only thing I can't do is set the App Pool because I'm using IIS 5.1. When I look at the error logs it errors out on the CREATE TABLE statements that use NVARCHAR (MAX) and the other error logs show that it errors out on "Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.". I've tried installing on SQLExpress also and I get errors as well. Most of the errors are due to the fact that the table does not exist because they are not getting created because of the NVARCHAR (MAX) issue.

I'm using Win XP and SQL 2005 with IIS 5.1...is it even possible to install it with this configuration?

Thanks
