Hello!
I have updated a DNN installation from 4.8.4 to 6.2.1. I upgraded to 4.9.5 first and then all the way to the latest 6.2.1. The last upgrade process was better than expected and had "success" of everything but the Executing Application Upgrades: 5:02:01, which was an "error". (Impressed has never happened to me before)

The skin used an old menu so that I got to replace, but otherwise everything seemed to work well. But now when I start editing the page, I see that only one module in the category all categories. Admin and the common is empty to. For example, I can not add an HTML module. Even if I add html module in the common group it is not shown as an optional when I try to add a new module.

I do not quite know how to find a solution to this so I'll probably go back to the old version and build up a new website in DNN 6.2.1 that I can move the info to.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

which upgrade path did you follow? you should at least upgrade via 4.9.5, 5.3.1, 5.5.1 and 5.6.8.

In the past I jumped me up on upgrades based on previous experience. This time I took a chance and went from 4.8.4 to 4.9.5 and then from 4.9.5 to 6.2.1 in an upgrade.

In the upgrade log, you can clearly see that it begins at 05:00:00 and then upgrade all versions after that. 5.3.1 and 5.5.1 installed without problems. But there is no 5.6.8 but 5.6.3 should be the last 5.x version

I know from experience that it may be better to make several minor upgrades, but even this method should work. Usually when something goes wrong and the installation or site fails totally.
Will try to upgrade again based on your tips

Now I have upgraded again. Fell back to DNN 4.9.5 and then uppgrad  in these steps:

4.9.5 >> 5.3.1
5.3.1 >> 5.5.1
5.5.1 >> 5.6.0
5.6.0 >> 6.2.1

I got a classic XML error at first uppgraderinen, but I fixed easily. The other upgrades went well but with some error. The last upgrade went smoothly and now it looks like that the site function properly.

Thanks for the tip about steps. I followed my old notes off upgrades for the other steps.
