With the standard installation using WebMatrix, DotNetNuke seems to ignore the fact that SQL server express 2012 is already installed and forces the installation of the incompatible SQL 2008 R@ installation as a prerequisite to DNN.

This is a problem which also ends up occurring with WPI.

 Any word on updating?

Platform: Windows 8 RTM x64

Followup: After uninstalling SQL Server Express 2012 and putting in 2008R2, the WebMatrix Installation still will not see the DB Server at all and will not get past the DB screen.

Has anyone had a successful experience installing DNN on Windows 8?

This is ridiculous, i.e installation on Windows 8 and no replies.

WebMatrix just came out with an updated version, yet that made no difference.

The problem appears to be compatibility with SQL server Express 2012 and making the connection to it.

The Auto option has been disabled as the DotNetNuke Application cannot connect to a valid SQL Server database. You can continue to use either of the other two Wizard options and configure the Database settings at the appropriate Wizard step.

on the CONFIGURE DATABASE CONNECTION page,

error: Connection Error(s):
Index #: 0
Source: .Net SqlClient Data Provider
Class: 14
Number: 15372
Message:

Doesn't seem to matter what connection you apply

SQL 2008R2 is not a DNN requirement (works well with 2012), but the dependency within the gallery package unfortunately hasn't been updated to support 2012 as well. I suggest downloading DNN from dotnetnuke.codeplex.com and install manually into your website. As long as the sql server cannot be accesses at (local)\sqlexpress using tcp/ip, the auto option will be disabled.

Cheers from Germany,

Thanks for the reply. I see a lot of this is being taken care of in the new product, DNN version 7, with the preview now available.
