Created dnn web project folder using starterkit,

used both file system and http transport -  set permissions for aspnet and network service

on the directory, but still get the same error message below:

I dont think it is security...but something else

what is the null object?

Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

hi,

check if the security settings for all subdirectories are correct. You probably have to use the overwrite-option when setting up ASPNET's permissions.

There is a parrallel threat that IDed the issue as a timing one. THere are so many modules in 4.3.1 that there is not enough time before the timeout on the webserver kicks in. If you start a fresh install and remove all but the html module and set them aside the portal will install correctly -that is the missing object I beleive.

Once the portal is in, you can reload the rest of the module zip files back into the install directory and install.aspx?mode=InstallResources. For me I had to run that twice before I got all the parts back in place, but it worked.
