I may be on the bleeding edge but I would have thought someone else has tried this by now. I tried to install DNN 6 and 7 on our new Windows Server 2012 with IIS 8 to beging testing. No Luck when trying to load the site I receive this message.

This configuration section cannot be used at this path. This happens when the section is locked at a parent level. Locking is either by default (overrideModeDefault="Deny"), or set explicitly by a location tag with overrideMode="Deny" or the legacy allowOverride="false".

Config Source:

 86: </modules>
87: <handlers>
88: <remove name="WebServiceHandlerFactory-Integrated" />
Any ideas on what's happening? Or can we not run DNN on IIS 8
This was not a new install but a copy from our production server and added to the default web site as an application run as localhost\<appname>
It runs just fine as a localhost application on our production server under IIS 7.5

Accepted Answer

Much to my dismay I had to make changes to the applicationHost.config (C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv)

Module section and handler section setting both to Allow rather than deny.

strange, I never had the need to modify that file on one of our servers.
