Hello,

I am running an amateur website (declic-video-fx.com) since many years. I started with DNN 3 and migrated to DNN 4 and DNN 5.
I plan to migrate to DNN 6 (or DNN 7 ?).

I am wondering if I should not start over from a fresh clean install of DNN 6 (or DNN 7 ?). What's your opinion ? I know that if I start over from scratch, I will have a lot of work, but I was wondering if the website would not run smoother and faster ? I do not have so many users and that should not be more than 2-3 weeks of work (I am not paid for what I do, it's a leisure, therefore I can afford it).

Thanks for sharing your ideas, that will help me to take the correct decision in one week when I will perform the migration.

Hi,

I did both with different sites.

I completely redesigned our Intranet solution and started from scratch - users were not the problem, as there were only a handful of editors which I had to create, all the rest was done by the AD provider :-) The bigger problem was to move all the content within a time span that it was not outdated at the go-live - I must confess that some stuff was.

The other web site was a portal with some thousand users and some 100 pages, and localized in 17 languages - this is definitely too much work to start from scratch, so I spent some days in finding a working upgrade path. Compared to weeks or months of work to move the content and users, this was definitely the better solution.

Best wishes
Michael

Pretty clear !! I need to investigate, I only have few authors, but I would not like to lost the newsarticle content (Ventrian module). Normally, should be easy to transfer, I will check a little bit. Thanks a lot for your advice. If there are any other ideas, I am opened.
