if your hosting partner is unable to restore your site, I'd ask them for the backups (database and all files) and restore the site locally to make sure everything is working properly. With the backup you should be able to use any other Windows hosting provider.

Yep - I've been suggesting that multiple times per day since they started making their incompetence clear on Monday.  They refuse to send me a DVD with the backup as that is "against their policies."

Lo and behold, the "fix" they put in last night accomplished exactly nothing other than to cancel a restore job one of their useless techs had started.  Did not resolve the issue, backups still do not restore (though their system shows the restore was successful, no files ever change).

I got in touch with someone in Engineering there this morning who says they see the issue and will get it taken care of, at this point I really have no other option besides waiting.

For anyone who either has now or is considering hosting your website with Network Solutions, I hope you will choose another host as not only does NS not have the support infrastructure to solve this problem in a timely manner, they genuinely do not care that 3 companies have been without any type of functional website for a full week.

it depends on your contract, but I expect, it is you who owns the data (not your hosting provider) i.e. they owe you to send it to you.

Well, to close this out, I finally got someone in Engineering to restore the last good backup and was able to manually restore the sites from that. No explanation as to why the restore jobs were failing, but at least we're up and running.

I'm currently cleaning out all old/unnecessary files and will be moving the site to another host ASAP.

I did try the downgrade route, but it seemed to lead down a never-ending chase of error messages (same type - Server Errors because assembly that tried to load was newer than the reference). I suspect it's possible to make it work if all other avenues are exhausted, but in this case I was unable to resurrect using that technique.
