Hello,

I have a client that insists on hosting their DNN site with GoDaddy.  I've seen instructions on how to perform this in the past but is there any up to date instructions on how to accomplish this?   I'm looking to install DNN in the root and would like to make sure I install this correctly on GoDaddy.

Thank you!

As a consultant, there is a time to tell the client that what he/she wants to do is so stupid that if they really want to do it they need to find someone else.

Often the best way to put this point across is to tell them that you charge twice (no four times) as much to support a site on [insert place you don't recommend] because of the trouble and difficulty you know it is going to cause.

Best wishes,

Richard,

Thank you for your input! I think you’re right I will have to charge extra for support if they continue to host with GoDaddy. I for one have not had any luck with DNN sites on GoDaddy. Can’t install in the root without doing it manually, even manual installs have failed in the past. GoDaddy’s auto install (which doesn’t work all the time), installs older versions of DNN. Their support staff is not knowledgeable when it comes to DNN.

I currently use PowerDNN. They are a little more expensive and I wish you get more disk space (1 or 2 GB more would be nice) for the cost but their service is amazing. I haven’t really come across any major issues. Any issues that I’ve faced, their support team was able to resolve instantly.

Anyhow I’m going to try and convince them to do away with GoDaddy but if I can’t any idea where I can get up to date instructions on installation?

I agree with Richard. I've had several clients insist on GoDaddy and I always tell them I've never seen a successful, reliable install so I'll recommend another developer if they insist. I only lost one client this way. (he never got the site working.)

I had installed my site on godaddy... it was not easy... First I had to create a folder on my computer (named it dnn) then I uploaded the empty file onto my dnn account... I then took the install.zip file and unzipped it in the dnn file.... Then I selected all and gave read and write permissions. Then I had to make a sub domain of dnn. After finishing everything up there I took all the files and folders and moved them to the root... It was a pain in the ass but I got it done... hope this helps
