Good morning!

I am currently tasked with moving/copying a DNN site over to a separate installation of DNN of the same version.

They are on the same server, but the sites are separate installations. If at all helpful, I would like to note that the site being moved is a parent site with no children, and I'll be moving it to an installation with multiple DNN sites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Ray

Edit:

Saw this in the FAQ, has anything changed since then (2007)?

Q. How does one move a single portal from a DNN database to another, especially when the portal ID has to change, and you don't want to lose any portal content in the database?
A. The simple answer is: you can't. You will run into numerous problems. It is not possible to insert an existing dnn portal into another dnn install. The only option would be to use the portal export feature, however, that is far from optimal. Even then: links to files in your portal (for instance images in text/html module will use the following path: /portals/[portalid]/[filename]. If the portal id changes, you would need to fix all references manually)

Portal export / import could work, but it very much depends on the modules that you are using (they all need to support IPortable interface correctly)

Depending on how large the installation is that you want to move the portal out from, probably the easiest thing to do is to just create a copy of the complete installation, and delete all the portals that you do not want to use anymore. You could even keep those portals in the installation, they would just not ever get accessed anymore.
