Hi All,

I just finished backing up and moving my DNN database and directory from my local machine over to a new development server.

I followed the procedure over at:

http://mitchelsellers.com/blogs/2007/03/11/restoring-or-moving-a-dnn-installation-(from-backup-files).aspx

When I navigate to the website on the new server, I can access the homepage just fine. But, for some reason, I can't access any sub-pages (not even admin pages). All I get is 404s.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Most likely you didn't update the PortalAlias table to reflect the site's new home.

Yeah, I added an alias for the new home. I'm guessing that's why I can get to the home page just fine.

It may be worth a double check. The code is clearly running - or you would not see the home page. When you get to the home page you (the user) supplies the URL. The links are generated in the site.

When you hover the mouse over a link that 404's take a close look at where that link takes you. How is it different to what you'd expect on a working site? Typically those links are generated from the PortalAlias table - that's why I think it's a top culprit. When portal alias is broken you can often get to the home page, but not anywhere else.

Best wishes,

Oh... DNN reads that table and caches it up front. It will not see your change if you manually hack at the PortalAlias. You MUST stop and restart the App Pool. I usually stop/start the whole of IIS because I feel safer that way.
