I had an install of DNN on my laptop but had to reinstall windows and opted to go back from 8 to 7.

Everything was backed up and the DB and files were restored but I'm getting the install wizard. The connection string looks correct using both integrated security and when I specify an ID/password. I checked by logging in using the credentials and it worked fine.

I can verify dnndev.me is set up correctly in IIS and the bindings look fine.

The only thing I can't remember is the version of SQL. I thought it was 2008 and I restored it to 2008 but I did have 2012 express installed as well. Could this be the issue? Is it possible the version of SQL doesn't match the connection string?

Thanks,
Mark

When you restored the DB did you attach it to SQL Server?

I'm reasonably sure that a 2012 DB will not attach to 2008 SQL Server - so you would find out at attach time.

Once it's attached properly check the security settings. The App pool the site runs needs access to the DB.

SQL server will not allow you to restore a backup from a later version, depending on the version being used when creating the database, you may try copying the database files and re-attach the database on the target server. (Different requirements may apply to user instance databases attached via database file name - I confess, that I don't use it much)

Richard/Sebastion - good point. In my haste to make this post before going to bed I failed to remember that. So I guess that SQL Server version is correct.

I did a full back-up of the original database, reinstalled windows, installed SQL Server, created a new/blank database with the same name and then did a restore using the .bak file. Everything worked fine from the SQL Server side and I'll check that the app pool has access later today.

Thanks,
Mark
