Dear everybody!

 I have the following situation:

  1. My DNN 7.3.2 Portal is installed on Webmatrix3 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. The site is ready developed and ready to deploy.
  2. On my webhotel I have a brand new DNN 7.3.2. portal and a database where I restored the database from the webmatrix install into.

Question: Can I just replace the files in root at the webhotel with the files in root at webmatrix and then change the connection strings?

Or is there more I should think about before I do that? Thanks for quick reply! I am working against the time as my old web hotel is running out and the new one is not in place yet :-(

I have read several blogs and manuals but cannot find a proper description of my situation. And I am really nervous about the deploy process (That makes things really difficult for me)

Have a nice day!

Gunther

I would take a backup of your current production site and database.  Then delete all files on the site, I would not just copy over the new content since any remaining files from your original could cause conflicts.  To move your new site into place, just copy the files from your new site over to production and change the connection string to your newer DNN database.

It should be that simple.  If it's not, you'll have a backup to restore so you can work out the issues without your site being down.

Dear Chris!

It actually was that easy. I first tried to overwrite  the existing files, but then I erased all - recopied and restored the database. Then everything went fine. Thanks for the advice! It is good to get mental support how things should be when you are nervous. and it is more easy to be patient and search for potential faults.

So even it might have been a small step for you it was a big help for me.

Thanks a lot and merry christmas!

Gunther
