I followed the installation videos to the letter with the following provisos:

  • I used dnn.me instead of dnndev.me, and set a corresponding entry in my hosts file (confirmed with ping)
  • I'm using IIS 8.5
  • I'm using SQL Server 2014 (12.0.2000)

Everything goes as expected until I get to the fourth video when I get:

The config file is running okay until it gets to line 96 for the handlers.  The error code points to an inherited lock but doesn't point to the .config file that's imposing the lock, which is where I'm stumped.

Thanks,

Richard

Supplemental:

I looked into the specific error code some more (0x80070021) and ran a couple of commands:

  • %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe unlock config section:system.webServer/handlers, which returned that "system.webServer/handlers" section at configuration path "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" had been unlocked.
  • Rerunning the URL for setup produced a different error, at web.config line 86, related to modules.
  • So I ran %windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe unlock config section:system.webServer/modules, which returned that "system.webServer/modules" section at configuration path "MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST" had been unlocked.
  • Rerunning the URL for setup now produces:

At least I think this means I got past the locked handlers and modules section...;-)

Thanks,
Richard

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/92... covers a couple of the common causes of this (usually it's IIS permissions/application pool setup)
