I think this CMS is the hardest one among others. It gives me a really hard time for the installation. What is the easiest way to install this application?

win 8.1 / sql express 2014 / IIS 8.5 / DNN 7.4

did you install SQL Server Express as local instance /Sqlexpress?
I would prefer to create an (attached) database and SQL Server Login manually and use it (using SQL Server Option, though it works with SQL express as well). This will allow you to access the database using Tools like SQL Management Studio.

HI Sebastian, thanks for your prompt response. I am not sure what you mean by install as local instance. I am not really familiar with MS SQL. I am a developer for PHP CMS platform. Just for some matter, I need to evaluate asp .net CMS as well. I installed SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe and everything by default. I also followed some instruction by the DNN installation tutorial video. I created a database(DotNetNuke) and user("IIS APPPOOL\dnn" & "NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE") as db owner.

When I tested the connection to the database by using test.udl. It was connected without any problem.

Jin,
you may use the same connection string: switch to "SQL Server" Option (not express), use "JIMMY\SQLEXPRESS" for Server Name, "DotNetNuke" as database name and integrated security.
Make sure, your IIS app pool uses "AppPool Identity" as ASP.NET user in advanced settings.
