I can't get the permissions correct trying to install DNN 7.02.02 on Windows Server 2012, running IIS 8.5.96. To start off as loosely as possible, I've set IUSR, SYSTEM and NETWORK accounts to full control and I still get the following error message. There is no aspnet_wp account, and I don't think I need one on 2012 R2. Various docs say there is a hidden system account called ApplicationPoolIdentity, but I can't give it permissions under the file properties dialogue. It doesn't match any user names.

I checked the permissions on the specific file web.config and they all appear fine.

DotNetNuke Configuration Error
Access to the path 'C:\Apps\DnnDMZ\web.config' is denied.

Your DotNetNuke installation appears to have a security settings problem (most likely permissions). DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Disable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

This post http://www.dynamisys.co.uk/ForumsBlog... may help you with the database settings.

I confess to being lazy with the file permissions. It's not the best practice, but if you allow the group 'Everyone' 'full control' access to the web site folder that will include the ApplicationPoolIdentity account.

Best wishes,

this doesn't seem to be an issue of database Access but of File System Permission.
Please make sure, in Advanced Settings of the IIS App Pool, your IIS Website resides in, you Chose "Network Service" as ASP.NET identity and grant file System permission for it to your IIS Website Folder.
