I would not upgrade at all at this point.
Pretty clear there's issues with dirty data (duplicate emails) that needs to be addressed.
I'll spend another couple hours setting up 7.3.4 with duplicate emails and then upgrade and log the JIRA(s) for the errors/issues I encounter
I'll post them back onto this thread so you can follow along if you desire.

I do remember we fixed duplicate email bugs at least twice between us implementing the social log in's and 7.3.x releases.

One last question. Have you enabled any of the Authentication Providers; Linked In, Facebook, etc ?

Robert,
I setup 7.3.4 with 2 users that had no email addresses. 1 I did by inserting the user, without an email address, via SQL directly. The 2nd I did by setting up Twitter log in and using the same email address as a pre-existing user.
In 7.3.4 you can try to add a 2nd user w/same email address via Social log in (Authentication Provider). It will fail because we're not allowing duplicate email addresses. However, a row, sans email address, is added to the Users table
I then ran a SQL update statement against the Twitter user record and inserted the duplicate email address.
I then ran the 7.4.1 upgrade and it worked.
The script that threw an error for you worked correctly for me. After the upgrade the "Use Email Address as Username" box was unchecked.

I have no idea how many user records you have in each portal in your database. Clearly there is something in your database that's causing the single SQL script in the 7.4.1 upgrade to fail.
If you wish to provide me with the site I can troubleshoot the issue

That would be awesome Ken!

I'll PM you.

Thanks,
