Hi,

I am installing the DNN demo package onto the following environment:

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 [TCP/IP Enabled]
  • IIS 7.5
  • .NET 4
  • user account is a Domain Account with Modify rights to the File Location and configured in IIS to be the default Web Site Logon account.

I viewed the 4 Install Video help files and am confident that I am only missing a good connection string.

Any ideas?

Joe,
did you create a blank database and grant dbowner permission to the sql server account you are using?
did you configure properly ASP.Net user account, which is configured in IIS App Pool advanced settings?

Thanks for the quick response.

1)It is a blank database and the Windows authenticated domain account has db_owner role membership (it is also sysadmin on that SQL server, and the SQL Server and website are on this development machine together).

2)On IIS 7.5 I navigated to my DnnDemo app pool and selected "Advanced Settings"  link in the Actions navigation bar at the right side. There were 37 different settings, but none mention  an attribute such as "ASP.NET user account". I did, however, go to the Site object in the navigation bar and then chose my DnnDemo site. In the right Actions navigation bar, I chose "Basic Settings" and in the "Edit Site" dialogue box, I click on "Connect as" and set the account to my Domain account. I then click "Test Settings" and get a success result.

Note: My connection string in the web.config file located in the site folder has the usual stuff :

Server=(local);Database=DNNDatabase;uid=DOMAIN\administrator;pwd=Blahblah1234; in the <connectionStrings> and <appSettings> nodes.

I don't have access to a remote server atm, but there is a setting in IIS App Pool Advanced Settings, which is set by default to "App Pool Identity".
You your own server, you may use Networkservice or another account instead. this user is used to run the application and needs file system permission (and will be used for accessing the database, if using integrated security).

Your connection string specifies UID and Password so the identity of the AppPool should be irrelevant.

Do your UID and password allow you to connect with (say) Sql Server Management Studio?
