Hello All,

I have two Windows 2012 Standard machines. On one machine I have configured a new DNN website with the latest code. On another machine I have installed SQL Server 2012 Web Edition with SP3. In addition, on that machine I have created a new database that my DNN site from the other machine will use. In configuring the database I also created a separate login and assigned schema as "dbo" as well as gave db_owner permissions. I followed the steps for both of these machines using the video tutorials.

When I attempt access the DNN site it launches the install wizard. I input all required fields and when I get to the Database section I select the "Custom" option and Database Type as "SQL Server/SQL Server Express Database". I then enter the proper DB server name, DB name, DB username, and DB password. After clicking the "Continue" button I do get the yellow "Verifying Database Connection" message. After some time, I then get the error "Unable to connect to database". The error that is displayed at the bottom of the page is as follows. I did login to the DB server and attempted to connect to the DNN database using the same user name and password and had no issues there. Thus, I am not sure where it is that I may be going wrong. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

please make sure you installed and enabled TCP/Ip protocol for both, SQL Server and Client. SQL server might need remote access granted as well.
Did you enabled mixed (SQL Server and Windows) authentication?

Sebastian,

Thanks for your reply. On the SQL Server I have checked in the "SQL Server Configuration Manager" under "SQL Native Client 11.0 Configuration (32bit)", "SQL Native Client 11.0 Configuration" and "SQL Server Network Configuration" and all three have TCP/IP protocol enabled.

Anything else you can suggest?

  • did you enable remote access on SQL Server?
  • did you open the firewall?

Sebastian,

Once again thanks for such a quick response. Could you give details of each of your questions on how to check those specific items, so that I can check and ensure it is setup properly.
