Why is it when I install DNN 8 using MySQL and I uncheck "Run as DB Owner" I cannot access any of the host settings once installed and logged into DNN? If I install and check "Run as DB Owner" I can access the Hosting settings once installed and logged into DNN. Why is that?

The issue here is migrating the site when I have checked "Run as DB Owner" at the initial install and migrate the site to the production server I am required to remove the user and re-add the user with each migration. So in order to get it to work, I have to reset the user permissions on MS SQL Server and remove user permissions for db_owner, db_DataRead, ASPNET_Membership_Basic Access, ASPNET_Membership_Full, ASPNET_Membership_Reporting from the DB user. Then re-add the User and change the permissions back to the above once the user is re-added.

Why are we having to do this?

any user with d_datawrite accecss should be able to access HostSettings, I am not aware of a feature requiring DB_Owner permission.
To mak it easier for you to connect database user to sql server user after you moved the database, you should run "map user" , see http://www.aip.im/2010/05/re-map-data...
