I'm brand new to DNN. I've trying to get a local install on my computer to start module development.  I'm stuck where I add a site to iis.  I currently only have iis express installed. Do I need to install the full blow version of iis to do module development?

you may use IIS express for module development, use Visual Studio (Community Edition) and it will use IIS Express by default.

I'm a little confused.  The installation tutorial by Chris Hammond has the following steps:

  1. Create local site dnndev.me
  2. Add dnndev.me to IIS
  3. Create Database and Add iis user to database

Isn't the install package on download link for community edition?  Is the installation process different for community edition?  I don't want to modify the core.  I'm only looking to develop custom modules.  Any help is appreciated.

so, I've been trying to hack my way through this.  Installed iisexpress gui and added the site.

now when i  access the site through http://localhost:8080/dnndev, it redirects me to http://localhost:8080/Install/InstallWizard.aspx and it just hangs.

Am i missing something?

ok, so i got a little bit further.  Here is what i did.

- extracted install.zip

-  created a site using iis express gui(http://localhost:8080/dnndev)

-  changed the web.config to point to my sql server

- went to http://localhost:8080/dnndev and filled out installation wizard

From there the page tells me "The product is being installed. Thanks for your patience..."

its been running for 20 minutes and still hasn't finished.
