I am trying to create a local install of dnn 8 on a windows 10 machine and cannot get IIS to see the site. no error just site not found. running IIS 10 - sql server 2012 express,  .net 4.6

I followed instructions found here on dnn and on youtube.

1. Created directory c://website/sitename.com and copied in dnn files after I set unblock in the zip.

2. Created IIS website

3. Created permissions for apppool identity on sitename.com folder

4. created  sql database and user

Did I miss something?

Thanks

make sure you reboot the machine after installing asp components :)

I assume you are using app pool identity in app pool settings.
If you try accessing a local site alias using Edge browser, there are a number of limitations.
I would try using a different browser first.

Hi Sebastian - yes I am using app pool identity. Thought I solved the problem due to missing asp components but that wasn't the issue. I am using edge and will try another browser. For some reason the browser isn't finding the local site.

You probably didn't create the site under the URL that you planned to.

In IIS Manager try clicking on the browse application link.

Hi Richard - yes you were right - instead of the url of the domain i created, it was looking for localhost, not mysite.com
