We have a site running DNN 07.02.00 (607). We are trying to move it to a new host. Whenever we move the site and database and try to load it up at a temporary url, it tried to load for a few seconds, then displays this error message:

The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred.

This does not appear to be a server-level error message (500, 501, etc). I cannot see anything in the IIS logs directly related to this either.

I am a little bit out of my element here and not super familiar with DNN.

The host offers an installation of DNN 9, but we have a few custom modules running on this site and are not in a position to upgrade it yet. We are really just trying to consolidate our properties down to a single web host.

Any help is appreciated.

Did you need to change the URL as well? If yes, you can add a new URL record in the PortalAlias table of the database. You'll need to also recycle the application pool once you make that change. In addition, make sure that the DNS and IIS are both configured properly.

Another common cause is that the database connection string is not updated.

Finally, you should be able to find the actual error by navigating to the following path in the file system where the website is hosted. Find the log file for today and look for the error message.

~/Portals/_default/Logs/

Yeah, I have tried all of those options.

When I look in the Portal Logs folder, i see the log file, but it is empty. Also nothing showing up in the raw IIS logs. Very strange problem.
