I've taken the safe route and have set 4.3.3 up from scratch rather than upgrading my 4.0.3 installation. Everything looks good and runs fine.

The question I have is... what is the best method to use for shifting user accounts from one installation to the other?

I've seen a few Snowcovered modules for the purpose but have lately become wary of buying stuff off there without getting good advice first.

Thanks for any advice on this.
Rob

Great question -- I'd also like to know how to import 3000 email addresses into DNN as registered users.

Surely someone has moved user accounts across portals before? I'm surprised this isn't built into the core.

I've been trying to find info via the forum search but man what a nightmare.

I've also been looking at modules on Snowcovered all week and that's just as much of a nightmare.. Whoever runs that place needs to spend some actual manpower organising and pruning stuff.

I'll go have a look at the old forums and see what I can find. I'll post back any results here.

I was finally able to upgrade a 3.2.2 to 4.3.3. Other portals have failed so far. I'm moving everything onto a dedicated server now so I can troubleshoot these problems. The 1 portal I was able to upgrade did upgrade all the users. It may be worth a try. I doubt any developer has even had the chance to work on an import/export of this type.

I would like to know if anyone has found a script to import a flat file of email addresses to insert into the portal as portal users? I have a large customer database from an old shopping website. I'd like to make this seemless as possible for customers to continue to be able to manage their snail mail catalog, e-newsletters, and maybe an email look-up for return shoppers, without spamming them...

I'm just looking to export and import DNN accounts, but the modules I've seen do sound like they might do what you're after as well.

I've been looking at BulkUser Import&Export v3.6.3 PA and Bulk User Manager 2.2 on Snowcovered. There are loads of similar modules on there but most of them are there several times over so you have to dig to try and find the newest versions. Of those two above, one doesn't list a home site and the other has so-so feedback and a site under construction. These are the reasons I've been asking for advice in here.. I've wasted too much time chasing crummy developers; so now I try and ask elsewhere first.

In any case.. for the 20 bucks, either of those could well do what you're trying to do, and might be worth investigating... they talk about importing from lists and setting up accounts and profiles with generated passes.
