Dear DNN Gurus and kind hearted people:
  I tried to do a clean install of DNN 4.3.3 on Windows XP running IIS 5.1 and SQL Server 2005 but I am encountering some strange errors. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

  Installing through VS2005 templates (creating Website from scratch) on the File System works perfectly. However, when I create a Website using HTTP, I get:

1. Error complaining about file permission for ASPNET process. I have already given Full Control to ASPNET process on NTFS configuration. And after I press F5 for refresh,

2. The install proceeds. But when it comes to creating the default portal, Portal 0, I get an error in the install display.

I create a new DB on SQL Server and assigned dbo rights to a user I created. However, I continuly get the above two error in the same order, whether I create the site using the Starter Kit, or using the Install download. Does any one else have similar problems and found a solution?

Also, can someone clarify if 4.3.3 is no longer RC1, but a final release that is ready for production? I am a little confused.

Thank you and if you need any more info, please ask. I tried many things including running a profiler to see if there are any errors during Portal creation, but still don't know exactly what's wrong. What I have found is that the Portal table contains the default portal, however PortalAlias, Roles, UserProfile are all empty. I have a Profiler trace file saved too. If you want to have a look, I can email it to you. Here is the full installation script.

I also get the same error installing 4.3. I've adjusted all the config as recommended - like giving FULL CONTROL permissions to ASPNET and NETWORK SERVICE accounts. Only difference is that I make a connection to the SQL Express database using a connection string. I get this THREAD ABORTED error just after it installs the last module. I can fudge a successful install by pointing to a new database and running the install again - but get a similar error when I run the portal - http://localhost/Default.aspx?tabid=36&error=Object+reference+not+set+to+an+instance+of+an+object.&content=0 

The dotnetNuke project team should really get on top of this - I've seen so many threads regarding this install issue. We need better error handling and readable messages which will guide a user. For the time being, please provide further details as to what this may be. Purhapes a 4.4 release is in the pipeline?

PS. I starting to concider running the source code project in debug mode for the install, so I can get a line number and error message - last resort hopefully!

Same issue here - anyone have any ideas? I am doing this on a set of test machines which have been setup pretty carefully following the instructions here.
