Hello, I am a beginning web developer who has already written a site moderatly well. Someone suggested that i use dotnetnuke instead of my usual method of writing html in Microsoft Script editor. So i recently downloaded Microsoft visual webdeveloper, with which I can use at a basic level, but i cannot for the life of me figure out dotnetnuke. Is there some detailed instructions anywhere on how to install dotnetnuke and create a website with it? I've looked everywhere and there is quite a bit of instruction on using it, but none at all at setting it up for the first time. I've installed it and opened it in Visual Web Developer, but i can't open any of the pages in my browser because of numerous errors.

Some assistance please?

Go to the downloads section of this website and download the docs package. Inside there are the instructions for setting up your site.

Well, now i have a new problem. Installed DotNetNuke on my webserver and bam:

The XML page cannot be displayed

Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

A name was started with an invalid character. Error processing resource 'http://www.buildingandconstructioncontractors.com/...

<%@ Page language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" Explicit="True" Inherits="DotNetNuke.Framework.Install" CodeFile="Install

I'm guessing this means my hosting service wont support DotNetNuke or any .asp things. Or its just configured the wrong way.

How far did you get in the install process? Was it successful?

It may be something to do with ASP.NET 1.1/2.0 configuration - but hard to tell until your explain your problem in more detail - is that the first page you have seen? What version are you trying to install? What does your host support?

If it is interpreting .NET as XML then my initial guess would be that your hosting provider does not support .NET. Another thing is that I would leave Visual Web Developer out of it at the beginning and stick with the INstall version. It is a rather smooth install and will allow you to get DNN up so that you can become familiar with how it works. Nice thing about DNN is it's ability to be configured and edited on the fly.

Then you can think about openiong it up in Visual Web Developer and start trying to skin it and or custom code it.
