Noone seemed to answer Trouble2 when he said a lot of people get this message.

I have a clean dotnetnuke site. I edited the dotnetnuke.install to include IP addresses and login details ect and tried to launch the site. The install doesn't seem to work automatically.

I've also edited the web.config file to include the login details but I get the Server Error in '/' Application.

Can someone tell me what else I need to do?

thanks in advance

DNN 4 installed after two attempts on my local XP PC w/ VWD and MS SQL Express.

However, on our hosted website I get the same message "Server Error in '/' Application".

Is there anyone out there who has an answer to this?

I've scoured this forum (you have to search and then read EVERY post) and nobody has a solution. I'll bet Bill Gates (or internet.inventor.al.gore) couldn't even get a same day response here.

The absolute BEST portal (on my PC) has no supportal.

Come on.

When I find the answer I will post it here.

And, when I search here as well as use other DNNs I get the white and yellow error page so often I'm beginning to think its a DNN skin.

LOL!!!  Me, too.

I'm having a show-stopping installation problem in v4.3.4 that I can't get help with from anyone. When I post about it, they tell me to install v4.3.4. AUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we are on our own here. Blind leading the blind! .... sorry I guess we have all learnt a lot on our own!!! But no-one has the solution/answer to this runtime error that even dotnetnuke.com site often displays.

Bad decision using free source programs!!!

Never again!!!

Saying you have an app error in a .Net app is like telling the Dr you don't feel well when you have a knife sticking out of your back and a jacket covering it up.  Just like a Dr the more information you give the better support you will receive.  Can you post the Whole error?  Is this a Web.Config error, is it a database connection error, is it a null reference error, etc.  The first thing I would do when trouble shooting a .Net 2.0 web app of any king is to go into IIS to the application properties and verify you are running the application under .Net 2.0 (there is an ASP.Net tab you can use to select the desired framework version).  Next I would create a new app pool and select it in the application properties of the DNN site if running IIS6 or set the application to High Isolation if running IIS5. Please try these two steps and post the outcome along with as much detail as possible.
