I installed DNN 3.3.4 on a shared hosting server.
The server has HELM control panel, .NET 1.1, 2 support.
I had random errors almost every 2 minutes using DNN logged in as Admin or Host, spontanious logouts etc.
(Impossible to work with)

The Helm control panel has the ability to choose what .NET version to use
(Control panel > domains > yourdomain > Web Site Settings)

After I choose version 1 all problems where gone.

I have been testing for half a day now and have not had any errors anymore.

(will post again if the errors return...........)

We use HELM also on DED Server.  Are you utilizing the one click install feature on the control panel and do you have the latest version update?  If you do not have FULL dedicated access to the HELM config (Administrator) then its possible that they may have some configuration problems that are affecting others shared accounts on the server.  This is not uncommon if you refer to the webhostautomation forums.  HELM 4 will take care of most of these issues when released in Nov.

I did use the one click install but before opening the page I checked the version of DNN and it was 3.1 (so DNN was not installed)
I copied what I needed from web.config, deleted all dnn 3.1 files, copied 3.3.4 (ftp) to the server and then ran the install.

This worked fine, until I tried  to make some new users etc.

After I forced .NET 1 through Helm it seemed to work okay.

Now all functionality if fine, but I get logged out every 5 minutes if I don't do anything (the setting in web.config is on 60 minutes)

Yesterday I called the hoster to ask for the IIS Settings.
They said the recycler working process is on 20 minutes and they increased it to 60.

This doesn't really help, so I send them an email and they are working on it.
Yesterday it was really bad, now it seems a bit better.

I (also) ordered a reseller hosting package at this hoster two weeks ago and want to move a lot of my clients sites there, since my current hoster is an "BEEEEEEP"
(really really bad, no mail for a week, websites down for two weeks)

We will see...

By the way, I thought DNN 3.3.4 should also run under .NET 2....
I think it's strange that switching to NET 1 in helm makes such a big difference.
Or maybe it's the same problem but .NET 2 gives more info back to DNN....

Thanks

I had a horrible hosting company (Tactical Systems) and they too used HELM as the control panel application. I had no other experience with any other CP's at the time and thought the app was great, even though the host was kind of like an absentee landlord.

Then I moved over to a great hosting company (PowerDNN) where they use Plesk as the CP. I was blown away by the functionality in Plesk, it is a MUCH better control panel with MUCH more functionality and control. VERY impressive.

I cannot express enough how impressed I am with PowerDNN as a host and with Plesk as a CP.

Its not HELM that's the problem, its the lack of professionals that are on the backend.  HELM offered the one click install that worked great for us and all our clients.  The only issue as with any other company is that they MUST update the packages of DNN.  There have been 2 updates of DNN since this roll out and it appears they havent updated the instal packs, Source etc.  Also the root web.config file have given some host problems.  DNN has thrown a monkey wrench in the security and update process of a lot of hosting companies and not everyone has caught up to speed yet.

We ve had HELM for several years now and its great because most of our staff and apps are Windows based but DEDICATED may be the way to go.  They are more expensive but its WORTH it in the long run.  We use MaximumAsp the same company that is backed by Microsoft and DotNetNuke and we have had NO PROBLEMS.  They take full care of our DED server and HELM takes care of the rest.
