OK, what have I done wrong.  I have installed DNN 4.3.5 on my test machine with SQL Server 2000.  I've done all the necessary steps such as:

  • Unzipping the file to a directory
  • Making that a virtual directory in IIS, as an application
  • Creating a database (aptly called DotNetNuke)
  • Creating a user in SQL Server
  • Giving that user db_owner priveleges in the database
  • Changing web.config as below

<connectionStrings>
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=journey;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DotNetNukeUser;pwd=password;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=journey;Database=DotNetNuke;Trusted_Connection=true;uid=DotNetNukeUser;pwd=password;"/>

But I get either the error about cannot get connection to database from ConnectionString to this error:

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'

Changing the server name from "journey" to "(local)" doesn't do much.  I got the trusted connection setting from this forum.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thx.

See that thing marked in red, Give db_owner permissions to that one too. (Not sure if its the best practice , we can worry about that later ), i give em db_owner permissions all the time (on my dev box) and it works.

hi,

i think you have trusted connection = true in one string and its missing in the other, i think you forgot to remove it.
You are using sql Auth so forget about my prev post. it was for trusted connections.

Try removing it.

<connectionStrings>
    <add
      name="SiteSqlServer"
      connectionString="Server=journey;Database=DotNetNuke;uid=DotNetNukeUser;pwd=password;"
      providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=journey;Database=DotNetNuke;Trusted_Connection=true;uid=DotNetNukeUser;pwd=password;"/>
