Has anyone had any luck installing 4.5.x on 1and1 shared hosting?

I'm sitting with Your site failed the permissions check. error in the installation part right now (although I set full permissions to IUSR and NETWORK on the /DNN/ folder/subfolder/files) which is preventing the install from running, and am trying to figure out if I should just go with 4.4.1 since some people have had success with it.

I bought 3 domains from 1&1, within months I transferred away... hideous! I can't think of a single good word to say about them. Cheap and very nasty (and you can quote me).

Hi NukeAlexS,

Who did you move to as I am also sick of 1and1 issues and would like to move my domains too.

Thanks

I use a number of hosting providers. But the one I like for dotnetnuke is http://www.re-invent.com. They pretty much have it all sorted. Only thing they don't have is a control panel for IIS (ideal for restarting sites) or SQL server (detaching/reattaching databases). They also don't have a phone support, at least on their basic packages (and really, you don't need it). However their email their support is rapid, organised and fast. They are based in the US (I'm based in the UK). A lot of people use go-daddy, but I avoid because they have their servers on medium trust. Also avoid m6.net like the plague. On the whole I believe you get what you pay for. 1&1 being cheap as chips proves the concept.

Others may have other ideas, I generally stick with re-invent.com for dotnetnuke as I see no reason to move. If you go, tell them I recommended you and I therefore deserve 100% discount for the next five years :).

Cheers...

I also recently moved away from 1and1 for hosting....although my issues weren't specifically with DNN.

My main issue that I began having with 1and1 was that suddenly, none of my ASPX files on my site worked.  I contact them and they claimed it was a problem with my code.  This was, however, not the case because I couldn't get a single ASPX file working on my site, although it ran fine on other servers.

I switched to webhost4life.  I've been fairly happy with their support and the automated install of DNN runs like a charm (even if it's not the most recent version).
