I am using 3.x DNN for a while now

I wanted to finally start looking at 4.x and downloaded the latest version 4.3.5

i unzipped into a folder and modified the web config to point to a new empty SQL server db and tried to install it by browsing the folder but i am getting the following error

Configuration Error

Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.

Parser Error Message: Unrecognized attribute 'requirePermission'. Note that attribute names are case-sensitive.

Source Error:

Line 4:      <sectionGroup name="dotnetnuke">
Line 5: <!-- the requirePermission attribute will cause a syntax warning - please ignore - it is required for Medium Trust support-->
Line 6:        <section name="data" requirePermission="false" type="DotNetNuke.Framework.Providers.ProviderConfigurationHandler, DotNetNuke"/>
Line 7:        <section name="logging" requirePermission="false" type="DotNetNuke.Framework.Providers.ProviderConfigurationHandler, DotNetNuke"/>
Line 8:        <section name="scheduling" requirePermission="false" type="DotNetNuke.Framework.Providers.ProviderConfigurationHandler, DotNetNuke"/>

Source File: C:\dnn435\web.config    Line: 6

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50215.44; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50215.44

As you can see it is running ASP.NET 2.0. I am running IIS 5 and i verified that the ASPNET user has full permissions on the folder

THe web config looks as follows

  <connectionStrings>
    <add name="SiteSqlServer" connectionString="Server=(local);Database=dnn435;uid=dnn;pwd=dnn;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <appSettings>
    <add key="SiteSqlServer" value="Server=(local);Database=dnn435;uid=dnn;pwd=dnn;" />

Just to make sure i also downloaded 4.3.0 with the same result. Then i installed another copy of 3.1.1 and it installed fine

Any ideas what could be wrong ?

thanks

Mike

Well i finally figured it out.

I had a beta version of ASP.NET 2.0 installed on this machine and never upgraded to the final release. Has to uninstall and reinstall the DOTNETFX redistributable which finally let me run DNN 4

Did you set the .NET Framework version to 2.0 in IIS?
