I like DNN - it's great.  But I need help installing 4.3.5.

I am trying to do a clean install.

I tried several different ways, and I never had problems following instructions.  All database access and folder permissions are set correctly.  Every time, I create a brand new database, and have a brand new folder for install.

I searched all the forums, but did not find a solution/resolution (just people shouting at the Core team members (who are notoriously, for the exception of few, deny that there are problems with the install).

Here are scenarious and places where install stopped:
1. Via VS2005: the install is progressing smoothly until around
00:02:31.717 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\Links_3.3_Install.zip:  Success
00:02:32.202 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\Media_03.02.02_Install.zip:  Success
00:02:32.795 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\NewsFeeds_3.1.1_Install.zip:  Success
00:02:32.905 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\Reports_4.3.1_Source.zip:
and then I get: Thread was being aborted.

It looks like something is running out of memory somewhere, because sometimes I get this error a module before or a module after.

2. Using suggestions from http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN4_DevelopmentEnvironment/DNN4DevelopmentEnvironment1.htm

I got significantly further -
00:02:48.952 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\WhatsNew_3.3_Install.zip:  Success
00:02:49.030 -   Installing Module File D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\XML_3.1_Install.zip:  Success
00:02:49.092 - Executing Additional Scripts:
00:02:49.108 -   Creating Portal: My Website
00:02:52.373 -   Error: Thread was being aborted.

Once, however, I did not get to the 'Creating Portal' place, but it gave me the same error few modules above.
I created a new database, and just ran the install URL again.

Lo and behold, it started with normal install procedure, picked up where it left off, and then created an empty web-site.  Of course, the problem was - it was a different database, and all other modules did not install.  The usual admin/admin, host/host did not want to work...

Ok, PLEASE HELP.

If you want to start over with a clean DB and just after you unzip your install files.

Go to the D:\Inetpub\DotNetNuke435\Install\Module\   folder and remove the Reports_4.3.1_Source.zip file.

It is getting an error trying to install Reports which is a known issue.

I've done your suggestion above, and I still get this. Is there a problem with the Forum module as well? That's where mine seems to die every time:

I'm having the exact same problem with the version of DNN I downloaded today.  Different modules.

Hi,

It's happened to me so many times, i stopped counting now.
Its almost mechanical now, its so predictable that i can make out if my install went ok or not by just watching the scroll bar in the browser. when it is successful it is a certain length. if it blows the scroll bar gets really short (page gets longer) because of the "Thread being aborted" stack trace.
I dont even bother to scroll down to the end of the page.

I just do the steps outlined in this thread that i created.
Step-by-step help for newbies 4-3-5 in pdf format...
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community/ForumsDotNetNuke/tabid/795/forumid/107/threadid/75063/scope/posts/Default.aspx

Basically i do the same, delete db, clean up desktopmodules folder, copy over the module\*.zip files, recreate db and
Pray.
I even make sure that i am pressing the mouse buttons hard enough. you never know.

Sometimes what i found was closing all apps even the vs ide and sql 2005 studio on my AMD 3500 athlon with 2gb ram worked. and then invoking the site from a broser. But flaky.

Regards KM
