One difference between 4.01 and 4.3.5 are the modules in the install directory.  4.3.5 has Forums, Blogs, Gallery, Store, and Repository which take a lot longer to install, and the Reports module is also different which creates a folder in the app_code directory.  There is a good chance that these differences are what is causing the app to restart before the install gets finished and causing the indeterminate install problems.  Different people will see different things because the asp.net 2.0 folder watching system is taking many factors into consideration that may be different in each environment.

Try reducing the number of modules in the install folder befor starting the initial install.

Yeah, it's definately the number of modules.  I had a friend who's a bit more experienced when it comes to DNN and he walked me through removing some of the larger modules out, and then install and it went fine.

I hadn't had the problem with other systems, but I think it was just my webserver (I was running it on a virtual server) was just a tad too slow to handle the larger 4.3.5 installation.  After I removed the larger modules, it installed fine, then I just added the modules I wanted and all seems well.

If someone can follow the directions here:

and tell us where they get stuck it would help.

Michael, I mentioned your link in my original post.

In fact, I was able to setup DNN 4.3.5 by removing the suggested module.

One more thing - in your tutorial you're explaining how to install it to local PC.  I was installing it on a remote server and MS SQL (not Express).  Procedure is not much different, but has it's own issues.  Besides, this is not the first DNN version I've ever installed.

So, all-in-all, love DNN, and I thought that I would love the install of 4.3.5.  Boy, was I wrong! :)

Thanks for confirming this everyone.
It's already been decided that future installs will not try to install all the modules at once, but this gives us another reason to package them separately.

I'll make sure Shaun knows in our next core team chat.
