I had the same problem with photo gallery at one time. I was able to use firefox but not the IE browser. I believe it was a cookie issue and after enabling cookies for the web site it started working OK.

You can remove the modules through the database by opening it up to the modules table and locating the module. Then change the value from 0 to 1 in the IsDeleted column.

You can also hide your home page through a similar procedure in the TabID table.

You can also go straight to the login page bypassing the home page by using a url like:"www.yourwebsite.com/Home/tabid/36/ctl/Login/Default.aspx"

By changing the tabid from 36 to the tabid of any page you want to access after the login you could even bypass the home page entirely. You can get the tabid in the address url of the page you want if you don't want to have to access the database tabid table directly.
