DNN 4.3.6
Something file sytem wise is messed up. When I go to export a portal template I get the error:
Error: Export Template is currently unavailable.

Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at DotNetNuke.Services.FileSystem.FolderController.UpdateFolder(FolderInfo objFolderInfo) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.FileSystemUtils.RemoveOrphanedFolders(Int32 PortalId) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.FileSystemUtils.SynchronizeFolder(Int32 PortalId, String physicalPath, String relativePath, Boolean isRecursive, Boolean syncFiles, Boolean forceFolderSync) at DotNetNuke.Common.Utilities.FileSystemUtils.Synchronize(Int32 PortalId, Int32 AdministratorRoleId, String HomeDirectory) at DotNetNuke.Modules.Admin.PortalManagement.Template.cmdExport_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)

How do you troubleshoot this???

Figured it out. It seems that Sychronize Files doesn't remove orphaned folders or something. Anyway, I removed the record in the DNN database table folders that didn't exist in the file system, tried again and it works now.

Hi pauldes,

I have the exact same problem as you have described.  However, I am quite a newbie.  Can you please describe in more detail how you fixed the problem? How do i remove the record in the DNN database.  What are "Synchronize Files"?  Thanks.

Synchronize Files is an option in the host settings. I'm not fully sure how it works though. Perhaps someone here can elighten us. I would also like more info on how to remove the record from the DNN database.

Just an update...We were able to fix this problem (down-and-dirty) by simply removing all file folders and documents associated with the portal BEFORE exporting.  Basically, we were left with all of the default files and folders.  When the portal was stripped down like this, it was able to be exported as a template, even with all the content and pages in tact.  We did not have many files and folders added originally, so it wasnt hard to add them back in after the export process.
