We moved a copy of a working DNN site from a websever over to a test server to use as  a learning tool.  The test server is running Windows Server 2003 and .NET frame work 2.  The original server was running 2003 as well with .NET 2.  Since it was connecting to a remote database, I left the web.config alone and just let it keep targeting the other database.  Moving it over was fine, setup a virtual directory in the IIS on the server, changed the tables to reflect the new location in the database.  The site loads, but when you click "Login" it gives you the login panel, but after you enter the information the administration panels don't show up.  When I tried a wrong user name and password it told me that it was wrong.  Why wouldn't the panels show up after I login?

Just to give you some more information:  I just downloaded the install file for 3.2.2 (Since this is the version of the website I moved to the server).   I created a temp database called DNN, changed the config file to point to the new DNN database on my other system, created a virtual directory in IIS for it, set the permissions on the new database to a new login name and password, and made it the owner of DNN.  I verified that the install folder had all the permissions I could give it and tried to connect via local.  After a few seconds of connecting, the following message popped up:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

The stored procedure 'dnntest.GetPortalAliasByPortalID' doesn't exist.

Based on just that response it looks like it's working, but doesn't have permissions.... but I gave it all the permissions I could give it.  Anyone know what I can try next?

Here is a new message after I restarted IIS and the SQL server:

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.)

Ok, got the fresh install to work just fine.  I accidently had the dbo wrong in the web config.  Anyway, the new site, from a fresh install, works fine, but the site moved from the other server still doesn't let me log in.  I did some changes and logged in as both host and admin on the new site with no issues, but nothing seems to work for the copied site.  The only thing that was strange about the copied site is that I had to use source safe to get it to the local machine.... could source safe have left some files that I needed behind?

Solved this one myself.  After about an hour of checking permissions and resetting all the folders, I decided to recopy the entire page folder directly from the system..... this worked.  At some point something important did not copy via source safe (not good since this is what people expect to keep everyone on the same page).  When I get time I am going to compare my source safe get with the actual folder and see what was missing.
